Tikal National Park is one of the most distinctive wildlife and archaeology combinations in the Americas, where great Maya temples rise above rich tropical forest inhabited by jaguar, puma, monkeys, anteaters, and a very strong Neotropical bird community. It is strongest for travelers who want an unusually accessible Maya Forest destination with serious biodiversity and iconic atmosphere, even if wildlife encounters are less concentrated than in specialist open-habitat parks.
